Chinese group Honbridge Holdings Brazilian subsidiary Sul Americana de Metais signed a MoU with Huawei for 5G-driven development of unmanned mining technology. The technology will be used in the USD 2.1 billion Block 8 iron ore complex in Minas Gerais state. The MoU’s financial terms were not disclosed. The agreement includes training of human resources in 5G, AI and cloud solutions, and the implementation of a technological innovation center when the Block 8 project comes into operation.
Certain trucks, autonomous drilling machines and other equipment necessary for the mining operation that will be controlled remotely are already in operation at Block 8, and they will now be integrated into a command system
The high bandwidth and low latency offered by 5G will improve precision and stability of the unmanned control of mining equipment, according to Huawei.
